ROCKWALL — The Sulphur Springs Wildcats advanced to the championship round of the Rockwall Tournament, falling 1-0 to the host school in the soccer final.
“Unfortunately we just came out flat and they came out with high energy and effort. Rockwall scored 10 minutes into the game. After about 20 minutes, we started to play much better. We started putting pressure on them and created several chances,” said Andy Holt, Sulphur Springs Wildcats head soccer coach. “Their keeper made some big plays for them. We just couldn't find the back of the net. It was very frustrating and disappointing for the team to not win that game, but it was a much better performance in this tournament than in our last tournament. We have shown signs of improvement and we our headed in the right direction.”
The Wildcats opened Saturday play with a 0-0 game with Dallas Samuel.
“All we had to do in that game was not get beat 3-0, so we tied and advanced,” Holt said. We won our group, that is how we were able to advance to play Rockwall in the final.”
Holt added, “We play Tuesday against Mesquite Poteet, who is undefeated on the season. They are a good team and have beat some good teams early in the season. This will be another test for us as we our playing a team that will be in the playoffs and will be a team that could make some noise in the playoffs.”
The Wildcats are 3-3-3 on the season.
