Whitehouse had a chance at another goal, but were turned away thanks to stellar work guarding the net by keeper Emalee McMillan.
“The main objective was to play mistake free and not give up anything easy. We went beyond that and look forward to more growth and to keep improving,” said Jesus DeLeon, Lady Cats head coach.
The Lady Cats play at home Tuesday against Texas High. Action begins with the junior varsity at 5:30 with the varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
Defending district champion Frisco Heritage protected their home turf, taking a 1-0 win over the Wildcats in varsity action.
Concerning the varsity game, coach Andy Holt said, “We had a tough time trying to get anything going. We were pretty excited about getting to play and it showed with our play. We rushed all night. We could never settle down and get control of the ball. The guys played hard, but we just couldn’t get control of the ball. The one and only goal came in the first half. Goal keeper Moises Torres saw his first varsity action and looked like a veteran. He made some very good plays and looked extremely comfortable. Nazario Arellano was another player who played well.”
The Sulphur Springs junior varsity got a goal from Adrian Lopez as they were tied at 1-all.
The Wildcats scrimmage Mount Pleasant on Monday night at Gerald Prim Stadium. The junior varsity game is at 5:30 p.m followed by the varsity at 7:15 p.m.
