EDGEWOOD — When you are playing a team like Winnsboro, you measure performances differently.
Since the No. 7-state ranked Class 2A Lady Red Raiders seldom lose, you can use the games as measuring sticks.

While Sulphur Springs lost 50-35 to Winnsboro Friday in the Edgewood Tournament, Lady Cats coach Jeff Chapman was encouraged with how they played Winnsboro in their second meeting with the squad.
“We still lost to Winnsboro, but it was a better game.   We had to foul them late and they made most of their free shots,” Chapman said. “But I saw improvement, we just went cold and had a hard time scoring late.”
Statistics from the game reveal that the Lady Cats were trailing by a lone point, 31-30 heading in the final period. Then Sulphur Springs could not buy a bucket and were outscored 19-5 by the opportunistic Lady Red Raiders.
Sulphur Springs could not recover and lost the game by the final of 50-35.
The Lady Cats were scheduled to play the Hallsville at 2 p.m. Saturday in the final round of the tournament.
Desi Debase was high point for the Lady Cats in the loss with 15, several points below her average.
The Lady Cats were 0-for-7 from 3-point territory, while the Lady Red Raiders made five, accounting for 15 points.
Sulphur Springs had 38 total rebounds in the game. Kasey Moore topped the team with 9, Destiny Wade had 8.
“I think the game helped us, I saw good things from our players,” Chapman said. “Wade was scoring down low and making good moves. Desi did more than just drive straight to the basket. She worked on avoiding people and doing other parts of her game to help the team.”
