WHITEWRIGHT — Sulphur Springs saw a first half lead disappear late as the Wildcats fell 34-30 to Whitewright in Saturday non-district basketball action.
“We were up by seven at the half. We allowed them to come out with more intensity,” said Jeremy Josey, Sulphur Springs head boys basketball coach. “They went on several runs in the third quarter as they outscored us 13-5. we had opportunities to take the lead i the fourth but we could not knock down the shot. We must learn to finish strong and win games. Which is all part of the process.”
Connor Cooper earned high point honors with 10, Reid Burns had 9; Austin Buck added 5, Wesley Harrison scored 4 and Mel Persons contributed 2 points.
The Sulphur Springs junior varsity won 32-15.
Sulphur Springs will host Tyler Grace Community School today for two games. The JV game is at 6 p.m., the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday the team plays at Hooks, games are set at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
