SS Wildcats in playoffs tonight

    Sulphur Springs takes the first step in what they hope is a long journey as they begin the football playoffs.


    Sulphur Springs, winners of the last seven games in a row, faces Wylie East in the Class 4A, Region II, Div. II playoffs at 7:30 p.m. at Ron Poe Stadium in McKinney.
    Sulphur Springs comes into the game at 8-2, averaging 48 points and more than 520 yards per game.
    The Wildcats went through district with a perfect 5-0 record to the title.
    Earlier this season, the Wildcats set a school record putting 71 points on the scoreboard in a win over Mount Pleasant.
    The Wildcats are led by the rushing of district champion running back Buddy Ivery. Ivery has 166 rushes for 1,216 yards (7.3 average) with 11 touchdowns. Second on the team in rushing is Willy Ivery with 81 carries for 890 yards (11.0 average) and 22 touchdowns.
    Quarterback Brad Macek has completed 163-of-221 passes for 2,018 yards, 20 touchdowns and four interceptions. Derick Ingram at quarterback has thrown for 911 yards, completing 61-of-97 passes with four interceptions and six touchdowns.
    Cole Hill tops the receiving corps with 70 grabs for 963 yards and nine touchdowns. Willy Ivery has 48 receptions for 579 yards with five scores. Colton Wise has pulled down 40 catches for 592 yards with five touchdowns; Jordan Jackson also has five touchdowns to go with 23 catches for 241 yards; Alex Burney has 18 receptions for 243 yards and one score.
    Tony Bravo has a 36.3 punting average. The senior kicker has also made 52 extra points and five field goal.
    Willy Ivery is the leading scorer on the team with 168 points.
    Sophomore Larry Pryor paced the defense with 103 total tackles. Zac Spigner has 80 total tackles for second.  
    For Wylie East, quarterback Garrett McCain has completed 156-of-287 passes for 2,546 yards with 33 touchdowns and three interceptions. Top receiver is Marcell Ateman with 60 grabs for 1,172 yards (19.5 average) with 17 touchdowns.
    Top rusher for the Raiders is Jabari Anderson with 203 carries for 1,445 yards with 13 touchdowns. McCain has rushed 133 times for 618 yards this season.
