PARIS — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats edged North Lamar, 45-43 here Tuesday in non-district basketball action.
Desi Debase paced the Lady Cats with 20 points, eight steals and four rebounds in the tightly-contest game. Shakoja Debase had nine points and pulled down six rebounds. Destiny Wade had nine points, seven boards in the win.
“The game close in the fourth quarter. We were lucky to win, we missed the front end of at least three one-and-one free throws,” said Jeff Chapman, Sulphur Springs Lady Cats head basketball coach. “North Lamar had chances to tie or go ahead, but missed their shots.”
Sulphur Springs played well early, taking a 10-9 lead after one point. The Lady Cats went up 26-20 at intermission.
“We played a lot better early. We did not make our free throws late and that hurt us,” Chapman said. “In the first half we were getting turnovers and steals. We were playing up tempo and using a press.”
The Lady Cats had 15 steals in the game. They also pulled down a total of 29 rebounds with 10 coming on the offensive boards and 19 from the defensive side. Kasey Moore, Chrissalynd Person and Desi Debase had four rebounds each. Sydney Fisher and Chaliyah Moore, one each.
“We did a good job of limiting North Lamar’s shots,” Chapman said. “We did a good job on the boards and gave up very few second shots.”
“We had a good team effort. We are doing a better job rebounding and we are looking for outlets with our passes,” Chapman said. “We need to get more scoring from our post players.”
In Tuesday action, the Sulphur Springs junior varsity lost 34-19 and the freshmen fell, 28-12
