Saltillo boys
win varsity
game, 45-39
    The Saltillo Lons built and early lead and held on to take a 45-39 win over Sam Rayburn in varsity boys action.


    Edward Jaime had 13 for high point honors for Saltillo while Clayton Jones scored 11 and Tyler Davison added 10.
    “Anytime you can get a win on the road, it is a good game,” said Bill Giles, Saltillo head boys basketball coach. “We didn’t scrimmage because of our emphasis on cross country, so the game was a little sluggish.”
    Saltillo lost the JV game by a 45-37 final.

Saltillo girls
take 32-20 win
    Victoria Stretcher scored 16 points to lead the Saltillo Lady Lions to a 32-20 win over Sam Rayburn in road action Tuesday.
    The Lady Lions had a small lead early and put the game away, out-scoring Sam Rayburn 20-9 in the second half.
    “Sam Rayburn is as good a defensive team as we will play. They are very well-coached and made every possession a battle for us,” said Garry Davison, Saltillo head girls coach. “I am proud of how we bounced back from a tough loss last week.”

Sulphur Bluff
boys win, 75-39
    Landon Dorner had 26 points for Sulphur Bluff as the Bears took a 75-39 win over Paris Home School in Tuesday varsity basketball action.
    Dakota Emerson had 16, Justin Goldsmith, 12 and Tyler Raine poured in 11 in the big win.
    The Bears came out growling, they built a 40-23 halftime lead and cruised to the win.

Cumby girls lose
varsity tilt, 40-37
    The Lady Trojans got 23 points from Breanna Gay but it was not enough as the Cumby varsity squad lost 40-37 to Paris Chisum.
    The game was close for all four quarters. Cumby went ahead 25-20 at the half. Teams traded buckets in the final half with Cumby taking the defeat.

downs Harmony
    The Como-Pickton Eagles won their boys basketball opener, 54-42 against Harmony.
    Bryce Steele led the way with 16 points while Corbin Flora added 15 and Yoan Preciado scored 10 points.
    The game was close early. The Eagles flew high late in the game, closing out with a 20-8 scoring burst to seal the win.

Roxton downs
North Hopkins
    BIRTHRIGHT  — It was a tale of two halves Tuesday night at North Hopkins. The Lady Panthers, behind the hot hand of Macy Griner, forged a 21-12 lead at intermission. But it was the Roxton Lady Lions who roared back in the second half with a 32 - 14 advantage to take home a 44-36 win.
    "It is frustrating to play so well early and just completely go south in the second half," Coach Larry Tucker said."Macy (Griner) had a great game and I saw some good things from our guards Stephanie Gamez and Baile Gammile."
    Griner led North Hopkins with 12 points while fellow seniors Melony Huffman and Alexus Garcia each had five markers with Gamez also hitting for five.     The loss dropped North Hopkins to a 1-1 season slate. They will travel to Saltillo Thursday to take on Como-Pickton in the opening round of the Lion's annual tournament at 3:45 p.m.
