SS powerlifters first at Pittsburg

PITTSBURG — The Steelers maybe the World Champions in Pittsburgh, Pa., but in Pittsburg, Texas it’s Sulphur Springs taking the title.
The title, is for powerlifting held Thursday, the Sulphur Springs squad under coach Rodney Flowers took first place overall.
“The powerlifting team got first overall at Pittsburg,” Flowers said. “We had four first place lifters, four second place lifters, a fourth place, and fifth place lifter.  Eddie Arciga also won the plaque for the pound-for-pound strongest lifter in the lightweight class.”
The coach continued, “We currently have 11 lifters in the top  10 in the respective weight class in the region.  The kids are hungry for wins.  They told me they have a taste of winning and they aren't going to let it go.  The kids are getting stronger every week.  When asked to compete for top spots they are rising to the challenge!  Best of all. I received positive comments from three different people at the meet on how well our kids acted.”
The following are the places and the athletes who competed.
Johnny McSheffery, 165-pound class, first place, 1,065-pound total.
Mason Y’Barbo, Super heavyweight, first place, 1,330-pound total.
Jake Russell, 198-pound class, first place, 1,275-pound total
Eddie Arciga, 148-pound class, first place, 1,105-pound total.
J.R. Rivera, 148-pound class, second, 1,220-pound total.
Joe Scott, 181-pound class, second place, 1,220-pound total.
Tyler Higginbotham, 198-pound class, second, 1,100-pound total.
Andrew Burton, 175-pound class, second, 1300-pound  total.
Tadarius Johnson,  Super heavy weight, fourth, 1,330-pound total.
Triston Crook, 132-pound class, fifth place, 855-pound total.
Next meet- at Rains, Feb. 14.
