TEXARKANA — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats took advantage of a cold-shooting Texas High team Tuesday night.

Texas High could not buy a bucket allowing the Lady Cats to stay close throughout the game. Sulphur Springs ralliedlate, but came up short, losing 45-43 to the Lady Tigers. The Lady Cats flexed their outside shooting muscles hitting seven 3-pointers in the game. Three each came from Stevie Moore and Talea Reynolds while JaMonica Hall pumped in one.

Texas High jumped ahead early, but could not pull away.         The Lady Cats stayed within striking distance, just trailing by a bucket 14-12 as the first quarter ended. Neither team burned up the net in the second frame as the squads combined for 12 points. Sulphur Springs was on the short end of a 22-16 halftime score.

The teams traded hoops in the third frame with each squad managing to put in 13 points. The hometown Lady Tigers were up 35-29 as action shifted to the final period.

Texas High was outscored late, but managed to protect the lead and win the  45-43 decision.

“As a team, we had the will to win but we made a couple of mistakes down the stretch which forced it to come down to the last shot and unfortunately we didn't hit it. We shot the ball exceptionally well. We just allowed Texas High to take more shots, nearly double ours in the first half. These are hard ones to lose,” said SSHS head coach Tina Carrillo.
