C-P teams split with Caddo Mills

CADDO MILLS — The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles suffered a 43-37 district loss to the Caddo Mills Lady Foxes Friday.

Lady Eagle senior Maci Kight led her team in scoring with a point total of 15 and pulled down 11 defensive rebounds. C-P started off with a five point lead in the first quarter. The Lady Foxes pushed through the defense to score 25 points in the second and third quarters. It was the low free throw completion that defeated the Lady Eagles.

Como-Pickton will play another road game Friday at Lone Oak at 4:30 p.m.

Eagles outfoxed by Caddo Mills

CADDO MILLS — The Como-Pickton Eagles were outfoxed and outscored on Friday to the host team Caddo Mills, 99-31.

The Foxes used the home court advantage to work them into an early 13-point lead. They continued to put on the pressure tacking on 36 to C-P's 11 in the second.

The Eagles were led by Spencer Boyd with eight, Dylan Mowat and Ryan Carpenter each evenly split 10 points. The Eagles continued to punch in baskets throughout the second half but not enough to close the gap.

The JV Eagles were dropped by 11 points to the host team.  Zach Carpenter put up 21 and Julian Ramirez sank 18 for the C-P team. The JV ended 64-53 Caddo Mills favor.

C-P Blue team achieves success against Caddo Mills

COMO - The C-P Eagle Blue team shined against the visiting Caddo Mills Foxes in Monday night round ball action. The Eagles were led by top scorers Trevor Cagle with eight and Deon Robinson swished seven. C-P ended the night on a high note with an exciting 29-27 victory.alt

C-P kept it a close game with a two-point lead in the first. The Eagles continued to build on their first quarter groundwork with another six-point lead.

In the second half, Eagle Trevor Cagle hit six-of-his-eight buckets. Clearing only seven-of-23 free throw shots, caused the Foxes deficit to increase before the final buzzer. Teammate Deon Robinson had a hot night driving the lane several times to score a total of seven points.

The Eagles ended with two points more than the visiting Foxes on the scoreboard.  Equally successful against Caddo Mills was the eighth grade team with the Eagles trumping 35-27.

The eighth grade team was very offensive on the floor. Yoan Preciado led with eight followed by Corbin Flora and Bryce Steele each with seven and Matthew Sharp added six to the scoreboard.

The C-P will compete in the district tournament being held at Lone Oak on Thursday and Saturday of this week. C-P (home team 8A bracket) will play in the first round of the District 13-2A Middle School Boys tournament at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Cooper.

Lady Trojans edge out Lady Panthers

NORTH HOPKINS — The visiting Cumby Lady Trojans took home a 56-50 tally over the North Hopkins Lady Panters.

Lady Trojan Savanah Neal punched in a even spread over the four quarters totaling 31. Neal has a season running scoring total of 685 points with an average of 24.5 per game according to Cumby Lady Trojans head basketball coach Renee Morris.

Lady Panther Tana Hall answered back putting 23 on North Hopkins side of the scoreboard (sealing five-of-eight from foul line).

The Lady Panthers took a first quarter lead on the two-point scoring of Virginia Thomas and Tana Hall. Neal started the second quarter strong swishing a 3-pointer to accompany her other 10 points.

North Hopkins achieved 10 bonus points at the foul line in the second half of play. Cumby continued to gain with double figure scoring through the entire game to lead to their victory.

The Lady Panthers record is 15-12 overall, 4-6 in district play. North Hopkins challenge Martin's Mill on their court Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Cumby hosts Yantis Friday with JV to begin at 4:30 p.m. Cumby has an open date on Feb. 10.

Panthers pounce Trojans

NORTH HOPKINS — The North Hopkins Panthers took a home court 45-25 win over the Cumby Trojans.

The Panthers jumped ahead by two in the first quarter.  Putting in 16 points to led North Hopkins was Canyon Cockrum (six rebounds, two assists, two steals).

The Panthers sank four treys and had a 56 percent free throw completion. The Trojans came back to make the scoreboard tied 10-all going into halftime break.

The Panthers turned on the defense holding the Trojans 17-3 in points scored in the third. Cumby was unable to catch a Panther tail ending on a 20 point deficit.

Lane drives lane for 23

MILLER GROVE — The Saltillo Lady Lions took home a 46-25 win from Miller Grove Tuesday.

Brooke Lane popped the net for 23 points, hitting a 3-pointer for Saltillo before the first half ends. To kick off second half action Lady Lion Emily White hooped a 3-pointer of her five total.

Miller Grove made a fourth quarter rally to put on 10 by Haley Potts, Rebecca George, Mareyna Pillard, Mari DelCastillo.

Saltillo will travel to Sulphur Bluff Friday at 4 p.m. Miller Grove varsity  girls are playing Paris Home School at 6 p.m. and the guys will play C.H.E.S.S. for senior night Friday at 6 p.m.
