One thing Sulphur Springs and Bastrop have in common heading into the area playoffs is powerful offensive attacks.
The Wildcats and Bears meet Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Waco Midway in the Class 4A Division II area playoffs.
The game will be played at Panther Stadium where the Wildcats will be the visiting team.
Bastrop played their bi-district game at this same location, where they took a 55-34 comeback victory over Corsicana.
The Bears were behind 27-17 before answering with 21 points in the third quarter and 17 in the fourth.
The Bastrop attack put up 662 total yards, 501 coming through the air on the strong arm of Josiah Monroe. Monroe completed 28 of 41 passes for four touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran 21 times for 161 yards and a score. Top receiver was Josh Taylor with five grabs for 132 yards.
Sulphur Springs also won a wild tilt, 56-52 over Jacksonville.
In that win, the Wildcats fell behind early, but got the offense in gear to take the victory.
Wildcats junior quarterback Justin Owens completed 20 of 34 passes for 320 yards and two scores, he also ran for 65 yards and three key touchdowns. Kendrick Daniels paced the rushing game with 117 yards and two scores. The Wildcats had 508 total yards in the game.
