Lady Cats drub Mount Pleasant, 10-0

Usually when a softball team has a long layoff, its offense can struggle in its next game - especially when the team is coming off a heart-breaking loss. But somebody forgot to mention that little fact to Sulphur Springs varsity sluggers Gracie Cable and Kiara Johnson.

Wildcats lose to MP, Kopeck, 1-0

Sulphur Springs' three game district winning streak was snapped Friday at home as Mount Pleasant recorded a 1-0 win behind the pitching of Michael Kopech.
Kopech threw a two-hit complete game shutout for the Tigers. The sophomore, with pitches clocked at 87 mph, recorded 13 strikeouts, allowing two hits, no runs, walking one and hitting one batter.
Kopech only allowed two runners in scoring position in the game. The 6-2 righty seemed to get stronger as the game went on striking out seven of the final 11 batters he faced.

Wildcats take soccer win; playoffs next

PARIS — Sulphur Springs got exactly what they needed Friday night, a 4-0 win over North Lamar in district soccer action.
After playing less than a half against Paris and then sitting through a rain delay Thursday, the Wildcats needed a win to bolster their confidence heading into the playoffs.
Adrian Correa and Tony Bravo had two goals each. Alfredo Gomez added an assist for the Wildcats.

SSMS boys do well at MP track meet

MOUNT PLEASANT — Sulphur Springs teams did well in the Mount Pleasant Junior Tiger Relays held for seventh and eighth grade track athletes.
The meet was not completed with the 1,600-meter relay not held due to bad weather in the area. Point totals for teams were not released according to SSMS athletic coordinator Lawson Crook.

Cumby lifter competing in state meet


CUMBY — The Cumby Trojans will be represented Saturday in the Texas State High School Powerlifting Meet.
Brandon Jones will be competing in the 123-pound class. He is a three-time qualifier for  regional. Last year he took fifth place at regional. This season, he improved on his placement, taking second and qualified for the state meet.
