AUSTIN – When Everett Wilder lined up Saturday afternoon at the starting line of the 1,600-meter run at the UIL State Track and Field Meet, the Sulphur Bluff senior had already had a memorable weekend.
Wilder earned a bronze medal the day before in the 3,200-meter run and was awarded his high school diploma on the same track Friday evening. He then went out Saturday and ran his best time ever in the metric mile.
AUSTIN – Como-Pickton’s Deanna Garrett jumped just as high as everyone else in the Class 2A pole vault Friday at the UIL State Track and Field Championships.
But, the Lady Eagle senior didn’t come away from Mike A. Myers Stadium with a medal.
To get an edge you have to do “The Edge.”
That’s the belief of Sulphur Springs head football coach Greg Owens.
Owens will be just one of several coaches involved in “The Edge” a two-hour conditioning program for male and female high school athletes which will be held four days-a-week for six weeks.
