Womack gets LSC honors

RICHARDSON  – West Texas A&M senior pitcher Marci Womack has been named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week announced recently from the conference’s office in Richardson, Texas.
Womack, a Sulphur Springs native, dominated in her first two games of the season to help the No. 5-ranked  Lady Buffs to a 3-0 record during the Lady Buff Invitational in Canyon with wins against Oklahoma Panhandle State, UT-Permian Basin and St. Edward’s.

Lady Cats split Friday softball games

FRISCO — It may be early in the 2012 Sulphur Springs High School varsity softball season, but there is a definite trend developing: The Lady Cats are big fans of the fourth inning.
Trailing Prosper 4-0 at the Frisco Varsity Softball Tournament, the Lady Cat offense exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning to seal an 8-4 win Saturday afternoon in Frisco. In their first game Saturday, a Sulphur Springs rally narrowly came up short as the Lady Cats suffered their first loss of the season, 4-3, to Justin Northwest.


No. 1 Saltillo wins over Martinsville

SPRING HILL — Before Friday night’s playoff basketball game, the announcer asked Saltillo girls head coach Garry Davison how to pronounce “Saltillo.” The way they played against Martinsville, he could have pronounced it “de-fense.”
The No. 1-ranked Lady Lions held No. 19 Martinsville scoreless for more than eight minutes to open the game as they cruised to a 44-26 victory in the Class A, Div. II area contest at Spring Hill High School.


Sulphur Bluff girls fall in playoffs

RUSK — Rumors of how well No. 11-ranked Goodrich played were not exaggerations.


NL edges Wildcats in baseball scrimmage

Sulphur Springs came up a run short in scrimmage action Friday at home against North Lamar.
Wildcats head baseball coach Jerrod Hammack was glad to get the two and a half hour scrimmage in regardless of the outcome.
