Yantis Owls fly by Avery

PARIS — Yantis survived a late surge by Avery to take a 50-41 win in Class 1A, area boys playoff action Thursday at Paris High School.
The Owls had a 10-point lead (43-33) with 3:06 to go, the Bulldogs came charging back with a 7-2 run to reduce the lead to five points, 45-40. But Yantis rallied to score five of the final six points in the game to secure the win.


Lady Cats drop 3 games

PROSPER —Riding a two-game losing streak, the Sulphur Springs varsity softball club was looking for a quick-turnaround with three games scheduled on Thursday in the Prosper Varsity Softball Tournament.

Jeff Riordan has been replaced by Derek Smith as head boys coach.

Saltillo boys play tonight in Jacksonville

The Saltillo Lions are state ranked and involved in basketball playoff action.
The No. 18-ranked Lions play Goodrich at 7 p.m. Friday at Jacksonville College in the boys playoffs.
Saltillo, 24-8, took a recent 58-52 win over no. 16 ranked Grapeland in warm-up action.     In that win, Hunter Holder had 35 points and Brock Giles added 11 points.

WIldcats win in baseball action

The Sulphur Springs varsity baseball team won 5-2 over Nacogdoches in the first round of play Thursday in the Rose City Classic.
Jordan Jackson got the pitching win with Cabo Sanvig notching the save. Cole Hill and Sanvig had two hits each while Larry Pryor Jr. and Kris Ford had one hit each. Pryor’s hit knocked in a run with two out to key the Wildcats the win.
