Cumby picked third by grid magazine

After making the playoffs last year, it is not surprising that Cumby is picked as one of the top three teams in the District 10-1A, Division II race this year.
That prediction was made in the recent issue of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine which recently hit the stores in the area.
Official finishing order prediction and enrollment, listed below:

Golfers do well in Tyler

Sulphur Springs golfers did well in recent action at The Cascades Country Club in Tyler.

Zachary Blackmon and Brady Blackmon competed in the golf tournament. Zachary had a 70, one under par, to win first place in the 17-18 division.

Brody was second in the 13-14 division with a 71 score.

Kip Childress, 9, and Kason Childress also competed at the Cascades.
Kip had a hole-in-one on No. 11 at  the course. He also was second in the 9-10 age division in the NTPGA tournament.

Kason was second in the 17-18 year-old division. He will be playing golf for Texas A&M-Commerce University in the fall.

The boys will continue competing this summers hoping to quality for the year end tournament at Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney.

Cumby Co-Ed

volleyball play


The Cumby co-ed volleyball league will play Saturday at the new gym. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. with play to begin at 9 a.m.

The entry fee is $40 per team.


East Texas Hoops play
days scheduled
Upcoming basketball play days include Saturday at Quinlan Ford; July 14 at Avery.
The East Texas Hoops Summer Challenge July 19-21 five game guarantee,  $235 per team entry fee and roster deadline is July 7, 6 p.m.
The July 28 play day at LaPoynor 7/8 varsity girls only Aug. 4 play day at Rusk.

The Aug 3-5 Summer Showdown at Lindale with a four game guarantee for $200 entry fee and roster due in by July 21.

Softball playoffs

Friday night
Sulphur Springs will host the Dixie Sweetees 6U regional tournament starting July 7 at Coleman Park.

Teams competes will be Hopkins County, Palestine, Fairfield, Arp, Franklin County and Broken Bow, Okla.

Opening ceremonies are Friday, July 6 at SSHS Lady Cat Field at 6 p.m.

PJC soccer tryouts July 14, 28

Paris Junior College’s new soccer coach, Lance Noble, is moving ahead quickly with soccer tryouts for the new men’s and women’s teams for the upcoming season.
Tryouts will be held at Noyes Stadium on July 14 and July 28.


Cumby team seeks donations for state trip

The Cumby Trojans 11-12 boys baseball team will be representing Cumby starting July 7 in the Dixie State All-Star game in Center.

The team is seeking donations to help with the expenses of travel to the tournament.

All donations can be sent to CYSA PO Box 763 Cumby, Texas 75433.

Interested persons can call Chris Bryant commissioner of the baseball league and head coach of the team at 903-456-4592 for more information. Upon request, a tax ID number can be provided.
