Kara Tomlinson of Sulphur Springs, seen in earlier action, had a team-high in kills Friday night when the Lady Cats beat Athens by scores of 26-21, 21-26, 25-17, 22-25, 15-8. Alex McGahee paced the team in points. The JV Lady Cats lost by score of 16-25, 19-25. Sulphur Springs will play at No. 3-ranked Cumby Tuesday with the freshmen, JV and varsity in action beginning at 5 p.m.

COOPER — The Cooper Bulldogs averaged 9.7 yards per carry Friday whipping the Wolfe City Wolves, 46-12.
It was a scoring parade for the Bulldogs with five different players crossing the goal line for the 2-0 squad.
The Bulldogs opened the season last week taming Honey Grove 43-18.
“It was a good game. We have some guys who are getting better for us. We did have a few score tonight,” said Cooper head football coach Ronnie Green. “We did better than last week, we cut down the number of penalties. Our line blocked well, I am pleased with them. They got better in a hurry. They did good.”
COMO — Rivalry games. They are guaranteed to give an extra boost of spirit to a football game.
There was plenty of spirit on the field and in the stands at Ron Heflin Field Friday night as the Winnsboro Red Raiders matched up against the hosting Como-Pickton Eagles. Penalties and turnovers were ultimately the downfall of the Eagles as the Red Raiders yet staked another win, 28-17.
JEFFERSON — Mistakes and poor field position doomed the Tigers as they lost on the road 31-16 to the Jefferson Bulldogs.
The Tigers were also out-gained 277 to 211 in total yards Friday night.
Both teams made three turnovers.
“We made mistakes, it was like our first game of the year, not the second. We had turnovers and missed assignments,” said Mount Vernon head football coach Karl Whitehurst.
ROCKWALL — The Cumby Trojans had a good effort, just not many healthy bodies.
The Trojans, missing at least five starters due to injuries, fell 12-7 to Rockwall Christian Academy Friday night in a non-district football game.
“We still have the five players out hurt. We had a lot of freshmen, sophomores on the field,” admitted Cumby head football coach Ed Perez. “We’re struggling due to a lack of experience. It is really hurting us.”
