Funeral services for Paul D. Herschler, Sr., age 90, of Sulphur Springs were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 21, 2009, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Moore officiating. A private family graveside was held prior to the service.
Mr. Herschler passed away Friday, December 18, 2009, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Herschler was born July 10, 1919, in Ashland, Ohio, the son of Dan and Bertha Herschler. He married Esther Herschler on May 11, 1945, in Houston, TX. She preceded him in death in 2008.
Paul was a retired Lt. Col. With the Air Force Reserve and a World War II veteran with the 390th bomber group of the 8th Air Force. He served as the Texas Agricultural Extension Service Agent of Hopkins Co. from 1962 to 1975. Upon retirement, Paul was associated with Guaranty Bond Bank as an agricultural loan officer. His civic involvement included Rotary, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce and numerous other civic organizations. He and Esther were very actively involved in the life of the Methodist Church. Paul dearly loved his many friends.
He is survived by 2 sons, Paul “Chip” Herschler, Jr. and wife Emily of Sulphur Springs and Richard V. Herschler and wife Gayla of Temple, TX; grandchildren Kristen Herschler of Sulphur Springs, Dr. Joel Herschler and wife Megan of Bridgeport, TX, Lucia Rossman and husband Lt. Col. Michael Rossman, M.D., of Washington, D.C., Loren Hamson and husband Karl of Temple, TX, and Leah Alvarez and husband Gabriel of Belton, TX; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by devoted caregivers Phyllis Carter, Sammie Wright, Betty Brown, Faye Pool and Jacquelyn Hyde.

Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
