Funeral services for Florence James Wright Clayton, 82, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 1 p.m.  Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Morning Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Willis Taylor Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Cedric Wilson, Damon Askew, Gerald Young, Byron Wright, Gaylon Wright and Sigmond Wright serving as pallbearers. Autrey Z. Pride, Kenneth Ritz, Donald Jeffrey, Willie S. Wilson Jr. and Melvin Wright Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearers.
No formal visitation will be held.
Mrs. Clayton died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Carriage House Manor Nursing Home.
Florence James Wright was born to James and Estella Pryor Wright on Sept. 20, 1927, in the Pleasant Hill community of Hopkins County.
She married Jack Clayton in 1947. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Clayton was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
Surviving family includes two daughters, Wardell Foster and husband Gary of DeSoto; and Maggie Monroe and husband Gerald of Ardmore, Okla.; seven sons, Jackie Clayton, Kevin Clayton, and Raymond Clayton and wife Sonya, all of Dallas, Danny Clayton, Dwight Clayton and Zebedee Clayton, all of Sulphur Springs, and Lafayette Clayton of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Mrs. Erma Wilson of Austin; one brother, Malcolm Wright and wife Linnie of Sulphur Springs; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Vella Clayton, Beauton Wright, Marie Wright and Johnnie Wright; and many other relatives.
Mrs. Clayton was preceded in death by one daughter, Migyon Montgomery; one step-son, Harvey James; three sisters, Lillian Moore, Marjorie Lynn and Zelma Frye; and four  brothers, Arthur, Melvin, O.G. and Marvin Ray.
Tapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
