Funeral services for Flavy Melton Brewer, 71, of Como, will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home chapel at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009, with Rev. Lloyd Cashion and Richard Teer officiating.

A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, with Bobby Wood, Troy Martin, James Hendricks, Shane Brewer, Valton Teer and P. J. Ponder serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Greenpond Baptist Men’s Sunday School Class, Dr. Darren Arnecke, Roy Darby and Terry Duncan. 
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, at the funeral home.
He died Saturday morning, July 25, 2009, at his residence. 
Flavy Melton Brewer was born in Gladewater, on Oct. 18, 1937, the son of Milton D. “Jack” Brewer and Katie (Durham) Brewer. 
He married Yvonne Bowling in Gladewater, on Sept. 2, 1960. She survives.
Mr. Brewer was a retired roustabout for Amerada-Hess Oil Company.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of the Greenpond Baptist Church.
Other survivors include two sons, Melton Brewer and wife, Kimberly, of Little Elm and Kevin Brewer and wife, Tammy, of Gilmer; daughter Raynetta Hughes and husband, Don, of Cave Creek, Arizona; brother Harold Brewer and wife, Andie, of White Oak; sister Jacquelyn Baese and husband, Duane, of Hallsville; grandchildren Brianne Brewer of Austin, Shane Brewer and fiancée Amanda of Athens; Hope Brewer and Harrison Brewer, both of Little Elm, and several nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by brother, George Brewer, two sisters, Helen Hesser and Hettie Evans; and his parents.
Memorials may be made to the Greenpond Cemetery Association.
