Graveside services for Florence Etoile Arledge “Flo” Blalock, 90, were held Sunday, July 19, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, in City Cemetery in Sulphur Springs.
A funeral service was held Sunday, July 19, at Cook Walden Funeral Home Chapel in Pflugerville.
Mrs. Blalock died at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009.
Florence Etoile Arledge Blalock was born on Aug. 5, 1918, in Blanchard, La ., to the Ethel Liles Arledge and Mahlen Pryor Arledge. They preceded her in death.
She married Joe Blalock on July 19, 1941. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Blalock graduated from Vivian High School in Vivian, La. She worked in Sales at Woolworth and Sears. She later worked in Civil Service at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo.
She lived many places during Joe’s career in the United States Air Force, including the Aleutian Islands in Alaska and Izmir, Turkey.
She was a longtime member of the Greenpond Baptist Church in Como and attended the First United Methodist Church in Cushing, Okla., during the nine years she lived in Cushing. Her many friends knew her as Flo, her other nickname was “Short.”
Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Mahlon and Pauline Arledge of The Villages, Fla.; and by four daughters and three sons-in-law, seven grandsons, three granddaughters and 14 great-grandchildren: Joe and Becky Byers of Houston-Brittany, Hudson and Alex; Brandy and Mike McDonald of Sugar Grove, Ill.-William, Sean and Molly; Josh Byers of Houston; Loleta and Delaney Clark of Cushing, Okla., and Tripoli, Libya: Justin Clark of Stillwater, Okla.; Ryan and Jill Clark of Pflugerville; Dee Anne and Randy Shouse of Merrimac, Okla.; Tina and Darren Shipman of Skiatook, Okla.-Shelby and Garret. Ginna and Don Freeman of Waller: Thad Freeman of Conway, Ark.- Caston, and Luke; Jeffrey Peterson of North Richland Hills-Beau and Lexie. Mona and Doug Reedy of Denton: Grant and Yasha Reedy of Denton-Tiana and D’Yanon. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Gryder and Eleanor Arledge.
