Funeral services for Robert “R.F.” Carpenter, age 85, of Como, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Brother B. J. Teer and Brother Tommy Hall officiating.
A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at Como Cemetery, with Durwood Smith, Valton Teer, David Craig Carpenter, Doug Franks, Richard Teer and Jimmy Null serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Robert “R.F.” Carpenter passed away Sunday evening, June 21, 2009, at Hopkins House.
He was born in Reilly Springs, on January 19, 1924, the son of Felix Carpenter and Effie (Crumpler) Carpenter.
He married Donnie Hass at Harmony Community, on September 13, 1945. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Mr. Carpenter was a machinist and dozer operator for A. P. Green. He was a member of Elm Ridge Baptist Church and he served in the United States Army/Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Sue Stout and husband, Leonard, Teresa Morton and husband, Rickey, all of Sulphur Springs; sister, Ruby “Sugar” Moore and husband, Joe, of Como; grandchildren Tanya and Sidney Nelson, Jason and Tamany Romans, Tarra Morton and Robert and Tina Stout; and great-grandchildren Leslie Nelson, Lesa Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Seth Stout, Tyler Stout, Justin Grubbs and Avery Grubbs.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete Carpenter and Gan Carpenter; and a sister, Fannie “Sis” McElyea.
Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
