Funeral services for John F. Perry, age 77, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2009 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Military graveside honors will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park with D. J. Henager, Jeff Johnson, Perry Sandlin, Shem Ray III, James Noah Ray, John Gillis and Mike Gilreath serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mr. Perry passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Carriage House Manor. He was born on June 7, 1931 in Midland, TX, the son of Jack and Jimmy Lee Perry. He married Charlotte Posey on July 3, 1957 in Waco, TX. She preceded him in death in 1998. John graduated from Lindale High School in 1949 and then received his associate’s degree from Tyler Junior College. He joined the military and was a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After the service he received his law degree from Baylor Law School. John moved to Sulphur Springs in 1962 and joined the Ramey Law Firm. He became County Attorney in1964 and served faithfully for 28 years. After retiring from office, he enjoyed a private practice until 2003. John loved all sports and was a well-versed sports fan. He was an avid reader and a wonderful cook. His house was the central location for all of the children and their friends and he enjoyed cooking for them all. He was very family oriented and loved to camp and spend time with his family while leaving a legacy of his faith and belief in God. In the latter years of his life, John spent time sharing his faith and his favorite Bible verses with his family. John was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He will also be remembered for always being there for those in need and his incredible sense of humor.
Survivors include sons, John Douglas Perry and wife Julie and David Perry and wife Kelley all of Sulphur Springs, daughters, Debbie Johnson and husband Jeff, Laura Sandlin and husband Perry all of Sulphur Springs and Norma Henager and husband D. J. of Rowlett, one brother, Tom Perry of Midland, TX, grandchildren, Heston and Mattison Perry of Sulphur Springs, Shellbi Perry of Denton, Adam and Kaley Perry and Rachel Johnson all Sulphur Springs, Tim Phillips of Colorado, John and Melissa Phillips and Brandon Sandlin of Sulphur Springs, and Elijah Henager of Rowlett, as well as 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Thomas Barron Perry “Tim” in 1972.
