Funeral services for Evelyn Smith Dial, age 87, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 11 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Christ with Supt. Nelson Gatlin officiating.
Burial will follow in Mel Haven Cemetery with Tommy Clayton, Norris Minter, Bruce Turman, Tyrone Dial, Chris Dial and Michael Howard serving as pallbearers. Deacons of Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Tapp Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dial passed away Monday, April 27, 2009, at Carriage House Manor Nursing Home.
Evelyn Smith was born Sept. 8, 1921, in Hopkins County, the daughter of Willie Smith and Creogia Newton Smith.
She married Bruce Dial in Hopkins County on March 30, 1937. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Dial was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Christ.
Surviving family includes her daughters, Audine Turman of Sulphur Springs and Earlene Hood and husband Charlie of Tyler; one sister, Irene Clayton of Sulphur Springs; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Dial was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Evelyn Nell Dial and Lurene Howard; two sons, Bruce Dial Jr. and Willie Coy Dial; one sister, Shirley Brown; and one brother, Willie Smith Jr.
