Iva Lavonia Thompson, 77, of Direct passed away Monday, April 20, 2009 at her residence. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2009 with Rev. Andrew Heibert and Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Georgia cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, 6:30 till 8:00 p.m.
She was born September 23, 1931 in the Georgia Community, a daughter of Clea Fulton and Minnie Alice Tallant Stephens. She married John Loyd Thompson November 10, 1951. She was a homemaker, community volunteer in various committees and organizations. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and a loyal servant to the Lord. Her kind, sweet spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a member of the Direct Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clea and Alice Stephens, a sister Helen Stephens McQueen and brother Shelton and Fulton Stephens.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years John Loyd Thompson; children, Connie Lavonia Powers and husband Donnie of Sulphur Springs, Phillip Loyd Thompson and wife, Jeannie of Direct, Roger Dale Thompson and wife Debbie of McKinney; grandchildren, Broc Hohenberer and wife LaWana, Aaron Hohenberger and wife Anjeanee, Cade Hohenberger and wife Candice, all of Sulphur Springs, Donnie Powers, Jr. and wife Karen of Sulphur Springs, Ami Hurst and husbband, Ben of Alvord, Ryan Thompson of Houston, Lindsay Thompson of Direct, Jenna and Alex Thompson of McKinney; great grandchildren, Schyler Hohenbrger of Rowlett, Taylor, McKenzie, Blayne, Braxton and Journi Hohenberger, Kaci and Hunter Powers all of Sulphur Springs, Hayden and Laney Hurst of Alvord and Jordan Powers of Kilgore; a sister, Virginia White and husband Rob, a brother, Glynn Stephens and wife Loraine all of Georgia, a sister-in-law Floydell Stephens of Paris and a host of nieces, nephews, cousing and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Broc, Aaron, Cade Hohenberger, Ryan Thompson, Ben Hurst and great-nephew Ross Moore.
