 Funeral services for Vernon Farrow, age 96, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs with Rev. Fred Lewis officiating.  Graveside services will be held Friday, April 25, 2009 at the Houston Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas with Rev. Ronny Barner officiating and Roland Carter, Ben Fields, Chris O’Neil, Bryan O’Neil, Larry Carter, Van Carter, Charles Fields, Paul Eddins, John Eddins, and David Eddins serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at West Oaks Funeral Home.


 Mr. Farrow passed away Friday, April 17, 2009 at his residence. He was born on January 15, 1913 in Tacoa, Georgia the son of A. J. and Lula Bailey Farrow.

 He married Mary Elizabeth Fulton on June 21, 1946 in Houston, Texas. She preceded him in death in 1986. He married Evelyn Eddins on September 25, 1990 and she preceded him in death in 2005.

 Mr. Farrow was in sales for over 50 years. He worked his way through college selling popcorn in front of the Greenville movie theater. He graduated from East Texas State Teacher College in 1940 and received his Masters degree from Texas A&M Commerce in 1948. He helped five of his sibling through college.  Mr. Farrow was very strong willed and a gentle man who’s faith in God was his basis for life.  He taught school in Big Sandy and in Houston for a total of 10 years. Mr. Farrow was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs and when he lived in Houston he was a member of the West University Baptist Church. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Sulphur Springs and in Houston.

 Mr. Farrow was a life long servant of the Lord, and to his family and friends.

 Survivors include his daughters, Sue O’Neill of Sulphur Springs, Tree Carter and husband Roland of Woodbridge, VA and Margaret Fields and husband Ben of Katy, TX, step-sons, Mickey Eddins and wife Linda and Frankie Eddins and wife Carol all of Sulphur Springs, sisters, Mabel Martin of Gilmer, TX and Lillian Hearne of Fairfield, TX, seven grandchildren, Chris and Bryan O’Neill, Larry and Van Carter, Jordan Greene, Charles Fields and Dara Fields, three step-grandchildren, Paul Eddins and wife Melissa, David Eddins and wife Suzanne and John Eddins and wife Mickie, step-great grandchildren, Audrey and Abby Eddins, Ally and Andy Eddins, Emma and Elle Eddins, and special friend Reba Nichols.

 He was preceded in death by three brothers and thee sisters. 

 Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
