Graveside services for Johnoween Gill will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Sherley Cemetery with Ruben Trussell officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be great and great-great nephews and nieces.

There will be no formal visitation.

Miss Gill died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Sulphur Springs Health and Rehab.

Johnoween Gill was born on Dec. 6, 1924, in Hopkins County, the daughter of John C. and Jessie Williams Gill.

Miss Gill was a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School, East Texas State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Texas State College for Women with a Master of Library Science degree plus additional studies at TWU. She was a longtime librarian at Texas Christian University. Prior to the TCU appointment, she taught at Winnsboro High School, Sulphur Springs High School and was librarian at Katy High School. She was a Baptist and had served in various capacities. She also held memberships in several honor and professional organizations and was a tenured librarian at TCU.

Survivors include two nieces, Janelle Gillis and Patti Fletcher.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Haskell “Hack” Gill.

Memorials may be made to Sherley Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 493, Sulphur Springs, TX 75482.

Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
