Funeral services for Shirley Ann Franklin Brown, 72, of Dallas, formerly of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Mitchell Chapel Church of God In Christ with Supt. Nelson Gatlin and Elder Tommy L. Chalk Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Mel Haven Cemetery with Elder Tommy Chalk Jr., Bro. Michael Hicks, Bro. Larry Williams, Elder Cedrick Grayson Sr., Bro. Michael Murrell and Bro. Isaiah Dawkins serving as pallbearers. Grandsons and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 27, at Tapp Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brown died March 21, at her residence in Dallas.

She was born in Sulphur Springs on January 12, 1937, to Creogia Newton Smith and Willie Smith.

She married David Launce Franklin on August 4, 1953, in Sulphur Springs. He preceded her in death. She married Elder J.D. Brown on Dec. 28, 2001. He survives.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker. She was a member of Mitchell Chapel Church of God In Christ.

Survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Dial and Irene Clayton, both of Sulphur Springs; three sons, Ricky Franklin of Irving, Claude Franklin and wife Michelle of Sulphur Springs and Earl Franklin of Irving; three daughters, Mary Taylor of Richardson, Vanessa Heggins and husband Jerry of Rowlett, and Theresa Franklin of Richardson; one step-daughter, Twanda Brown of Childress; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Willie Smith Jr.
