Linda Sue Chapman Winkfein

Linda Sue Chapman Winkfein, 66, of Terrell died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, in Dallas.  

She was born Nov. 22, 1947, in Cooper to Clyde and Velma Belle George Chapman.  

She graduated from W.W. Samuel in 1965.  

She married Peter John Winkfein Jr. in June of 1972 in Dallas. 

Linda loved the credit union.  

She began her career at Mobile Oil Credit Union, now Pegasus, as a teller and worked her way up to assistant manager under Walter Crystal.  

She then decided to go to work for Dallas Federal Credit Union and worked there for over 17 years, starting as a loan supervisor and working her way up to vice president.  

After retiring from DFCU, she decided to go back to work and was currently working for the Cornerstone League, formerly known as the Texas Credit Union League.  

During her career, Linda has served on a variety of credit union association boards, committees and task forces including. In 1988, the certified Credit Union Executive Committee; in 1989 as President of the Dallas Chapter of Credit Unions; in 1996, she was appointed Chairman of TCUL PAC, where she served until 1998; the Texas Credit Union League Board of Directors from 1991-1998, where she served as secretary/treasurer from 1997-1998; and the CUNA Lending Council Executive Committee, where she received an Excellence in Lending award in 2002. 

She also enjoyed being involved in local politics. She was appointed by the Mesquite City Council from 1999-2005 to serve on the Mesquite Housing Board. She also volunteered in the political campaigns for Sam Johnson, George Bush and Pete Sessions. She also served as campaign chairperson for State Representative Elvira Reyna in 1996. 

  Linda loved to read, socialize and be around her family.  

Linda, known as Notna to her grandkids, loved having family gatherings, especially at her home. She loved having everyone over for her family days as often as she could.  

She is survived by her husband of more than 40 years, Pete Winkfein of Terrell; children Bradley Scott Winkfein and his wife, Dottie, of Mesquite, Brandy Lynn Wells and her husband, Scott, of Forney, and Stephen Winkfein and his wife, Lisa, of Ada, Okla.; grandchildren Ashley and Peyton Winkfein, Austin and Katryn Wells, and Alex Winkfein; special niece Susan Meza of Mesquite; great-nephew Matthew Meza; great-niece: Laura Meza; great-great-niece: Kayle Meza; great-great-nephew: Sean Meza; and mother-in-law: Earlene Winkfein; as well as a host of close nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Johnnie Lou Cauthen; brother Benny Clyde Chapman; aunt June Sandridge; and uncle Lewis Sandridge.  

  A celebration remembering her life was held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at the First Baptist Church in Forney, under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home.
