Masonic services for W.D “Red” Barnett, 88, of Mount Vernon will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Stinson officiating.

Visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

W.D. “Red” Barnett died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Dallas. 

He was born in Hopkins County on June 21, 1925, the son of John Robert and Eppie Nora Nichols Barnett.  

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was past Worshipful Master of Sulphur Springs Masonic Lodge  No. 221.  

He was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Horace Ray Barnett of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Lois Roberts of Italy, Texas, and Francine Clark of Garland; and sister-in-law Mary Frances Barnett of Sulphur Springs.

Memorials may be made to Hopkins County Veterans Memorial or Central Baptist Church.
