Funeral services for Richard Wakeman, 73, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at League Street Church of Christ with Hansen Wakeman and Jerry Savage officiating.

A military graveside service under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow in the Shooks Chapel Cemetery with Kevin Penson, Joe Anderson, Gary Williams, Reggie Blevins Jr., James Hall, Mike Comer, Allen Martin and Jeff Carpenter serving as pallbearers. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Richard Wakeman died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, in Sulphur Springs from injuries from an auto accident.

He was born in Overton Dec. 27, 1940, the son of David N. Wakeman, Sr. and Edna Trammell Wakeman. They preceded him in death.

He married Linda Anderson. She preceded him in death in 1997. He later married Shirley Huffstuttler. She survives.

He served in the United States Army and was a self employed carpet installer.

Other survivors include daughters Wende Wakeman of The Woodlands, Sonya Smith and  husband, Carl, of Sulphur Springs, and Elaine Merrell and husband, Doug, of Sulphur Springs; sons Hansen Wakeman and wife, Candes, and Calvin Robinson of Sulphur Springs; brothers Ramon Wakeman of Coffee City and David N. Wakeman Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
