    Funeral mass for Elmer Grubbs Jr., 82, of Lakin, Kan., formerly of Hopkins County, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin, with Father Mike Helms officiating.
    Interment will follow in Lakin Cemetery.

    Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, and from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29.
    A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at the church.
    Elmer Grubbs Jr. died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kan.
    He was born on Jan. 31, 1931, in Hopkins County, to Elmer and Flossie (Wesson) Grubbs.
    He married Mary Miller on March, 27, 1951, in Lakin. She survives.
    He, along with his parents and sister, performed as the Sulphur Springs Hillbillies for area dances and the local radio statioin.
    He worked for area farmers, Colorado Interstate Gas, Ford garage, Melvin’s Repair and Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas before opening Grubbs Repair, which he operated for 41 years.
    He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was vice president of the Lakin Chapter of the Kansas Oldtime Fiddlers and Pickers.
    Other survivors include children Mary and Harold Long of Overbrook, Kan., Patsy Hough of Price, Utah, Dennis Grubbs and Julie and Robbie McCombs, all of Lakin; daughter-in-law Helen Grubbs of Lakin; brother Kenneth Grubbs of Sulphur Springs; two sisters, Ralphie Harrod of Yantis and Peggy Gamblin of DeSoto; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Elmer Edward Grubbs; a sister, Shirley Orr; and a brother, Nolan Wesson Grubbs.
