Funeral services for Mary Helen Hicks, 58, of Mount Vernon will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon with the Rev. Jack Wallace officiating.

Burial will follow at MountVernon City Cemetery with John Tutor, Preston McDonald, David Stotts, Allen Nottingham, Ken Greer and Paul Fletcher serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hicks died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

She was born Dec. 31, 1954, to Jimmie Deas and Helen Littlepage Deas in Sulphur Springs.

She was a public school teacher and counselor.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon and served previously as an officer for the district conference for the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her father, Jimmie Deas; her husband, the Rev. John Hicks; two sons, Caleb of New Orleans, La., and Daniel of Kerrville; sisters, Dorothy Anthony and husband, James, of Wichita Falls, Cathy Dye and husband, Garland, of Yantis, and  Becky Burford and husband, Johnny, of Quitman; a  brother, John Deas, and wife, Diane, of Tyler; and two brothers-in-law, B.F. Hicks and Sid Hicks.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Deas.
