A memorial service for Freida Rape Thomas, age 91, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 20, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sulphur Springs with Rev. Charles Moore officiating.  A private graveside service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park.  

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2009 at West Oaks Funeral Home.  

Mrs. Thomas passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Thomas was born on July 22, 1917 in Hopkins County, the daughter of Wyley Cleveland and Cora Bell Moseley Rape.  She married Wilson Calvin Thomas on  September 1, 1942 in Long Beach, CA.  He preceded her in death.  

Mrs. Thomas received her Bachelor’s degree from East Texas State Teachers College and taught school for a number of years.  She was a homemaker who loved her family, gardening and was a great cook.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was very involved with her Fellowship class and the Women’s Circle.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Thomas Ballantyne and husband Rick of Fresno, CA, and Suzanne Thomas Bankston and husband Bobby of Sulphur Springs, one son, Robert Thomas of Dallas, TX, two sisters Merle Snyder of Sulphur Springs, TX and Flo Bramlett and husband Raymond “Corky” of Richardson, TX, grandchildren, Kim Thompson of Fresno, CA, Bryan Thomas and wife Jennifer of Blossom, TX, Adrian Thomas of Dallas, TX, great-granddaughter Olivia Thomas of Blossom, TX, step-granddaughters, Leanne Esmay of Fresno, CA,  Amy Dieter of Sacramento, CA, Robin Wheat of Cumby, TX, five step great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-laws, Betty Thomas Chiles of Fayetteville, NC and Frances Thomas of Levelland, TX.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Jimmy Tatom and five sisters.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 129 College Street, Sulphur Springs, TX, 75482 or to the First Presbyterian Church, c/o Bob Yarbrough, 201 West I-30, Cumby, TX.  

Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
