Funeral services for Johnny Wesley Spencer Jr., 83, of Wortham were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the First United Methodist Church of Wortham, with the Rev. Gary Watson officiating.
Interment followed at Wortham Cemetery, Pallbearers were members of the Masonic Lodge. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Bennett, Tom Hamil, Archie Worsham, John C. Worsham, Clint Spencer, Ivan Spencer, Willie Rowland and Al Gonzalez.
Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Porter Chapel in Wortham.
John Spencer died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013.
He was born June 11, 1930, in Hopkins County.
He graduated from Sulphur Springs High School, and attended the University of Houston. He joined the Army in 1950 and married Jacquelyn Poindexter in 1957. She survives.
Mr. Spencer worked 20 years for Texaco in Dallas and Houston. He lived in Atlanta, Ga., for 10 years before moving to Wortham, where he held the position of Wortham city secretary and as Wortham municipal judge. He was a member of the Longbotham Masonic Lodge and the First Methodist Church.
Other survivors include sisters Rose Enix and Mary Bonham; brother Charles Spencer; sons Jace Spencer and wife, Deborah, and Jeff Spencer; grandchildren Jonathan Spencer, Kendall Spencer, Roxanne Spencer, Suzanne Spencer and Julianne Spencer; and great-grandchildren Ella Busby and Jayden Hopper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Annie Spencer; and his sister, Ola Worsham.
