A funeral service for Olen Townsend, 89, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neal Cochran officiating.
Interment will follow at Sherley Cemetery with Mark Swanson, David Swanson, Dr. Chris Hammons, Jordan Jones, Deke Jones, Juddson Maloney, Bradford Diener, Derek Dickson and Dakota Diener serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, the funeral home.
Olen Townsend died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Mahoney on March 14, 1924, the son of George James “Tod” Townsend and Mattie Alverta (Johnson) Townsend.
He was a retired maintenance worker for Rockwell International and he was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Kathy Swanson and husband, Lanoy, Janie Patton, Betty Jones and husband, Roger, all of Sulphur Springs, and Diann Diener and husband, Brad, of Mahoney; brother Troy Townsend of Emory; grandchildren Mark Swanson, Kim George, David Swanson, Jennifer Patton, Jessica Freeman, Juddson Maloney, Wade Jones, Dr. Chris Hammons, Leiah Garcia, Deke Jones, Jordan Jones, Lesley Overstreet, Heather Nolen, Brandy Robinson, Hannah Morris and Bradford Diener; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Leslie Townsend; four brothers; and two sisters.
