Funeral services for John M. Stribling, 87, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Shooks Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Cook officiating.
Interment will follow at Shooks Chapel Cemetery with Larry Blount, John W. Stribling, Mark Osterberg and Doug Tietjem serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Maynard, Jimmy Winfrey, Dr. Darren Arnecke and Ronnie Blount.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mr. Stribling died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Rock Creek Rehab Center.
John Stribling was born in the Parks Springs community on July 19, 1925, the son of William Gamblin Stribling and Lucille Gertrude (Darby) Stribling.
He married Guynell Ray on March 29, 1947.
Mr. Stribling was a farmer and cattleman in Hopkins County for many years. He was an organizing member of the Hopkins County Sheriff's Posse.
Other survivors include his daughter, Nancy Osterberg and husband, Mack; a son, Tom Stribling and wife, Mary; grandchildren Kristin Heeren and husband, Jon, Kimberly Osterberg, John W. Stribling, Callie Stribling and McKenzie Stribling; great-grandchildren Joshua and Anna Heeren; a brother, William Stribling; and a sister, Martha Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Chester Stribling; and a sister, Ruth Clifton.
The family requests any donations be made to the Shooks Chapel Cemetery Association, 209 South Moore St., Sulphur Springs, Texas 75482.
Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
