Funeral services for Robert Lee Shugart, age 90, of Paris, formerly of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Andy Cromer and Rev. Tommy Hall officiating.
Military Honors by the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow at Posey Cemetery with Dale Loggins, Tim Lewis, Larry West, Caleb Lewis, John D. Shugart and Braden Malone serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m., one hour prior to service time, Saturday, June 1, 2013, at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mr. Shugart passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Brentwood Terrace H C and Rehab in Paris, TX. Mr. Shugart was born on July 17, 1922 in Sulphur Springs, TX, the son of John Bradfield and Anne De Ellen (Hopper) Shugart.
He married Wilma Marie Whitten on April 28, 1943 in Paris, TX. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Shugart was a lineman for Southwestern Public Service for 27 years before he retired. He was also a Baptist minister for over 32 years and pastored churches in Texas and Oklahoma. He was a member of Davis Street Baptist Church. Mr. Shugart served in the United States Army during World War II.
He is survived by his son, Robert Lee Shugart, Jr., and wife Jaunita of Shamrock, TX; daughters Jean Wilkinson of Commerce, TX, Vicki Risner and husband Charles of Perryton, TX, Geniva Hogan and husband Robert of Ft. Stockton, TX; brother, John “J. B.” Shugart and wife Margaret of Tye; special nephew and his wife Dale and Judy Loggins; and special friend Terry Wyley.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother George Shugart; sisters Willie Ada McCaslind and Minnie Lee Ross.
