Funeral services for John Irons, 93, of Sulphur Springs have been set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Tapp Funeral Home with Tommy Johnston and Jim Moore officiating.
A visitation will be held at Tapp Funeral Home on Monday April 15, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. No graveside service is to be conducted.
John Irons was born in Hopkins County, the son of Grant and Alma Irons.
He married Clyde Williams in Sulphur Springs on Jan. 20, 1940. She preceded him in death.
John accepted Christ when he was 12 years old and joined Beckham Baptist Church, later moving his membership to First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs. He was a dairyman. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marines and Army transport. He belonged to the American Legion and was a 50-year member of the Masons of Sulphur Springs Lodge 221. He served as Worshipful Master and District Deputy Grand Master.
Mr. Irons passed away April 11, 2013, at Lake Point Medical Center in Rowlett.
Survivors include a niece, Barbara Sturgeon of Rockwall; a nephew, Roger Williams of Kimberling City, Mio.; and several cousins.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tapp Funeral Home.
