A graveside service for J.P. Smith, 81, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Bro. L.D. Baxley will officiate, with Kelly Faulks, Bobby Faulks, Jessy Anderson, Tommy Jolly Sr., Tommy Jolly Jr. and Colton Faulks serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Smith died Sunday, March 17, 2013, at a Paris hospital.
J.P. Smith was born on July 26, 1931, in Eastland, the son of James and Lydia (Greenwood) Smith.
He married Dorothy A. Proffitt on March 20, 1952, in Knox City. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. Smith was a rancher and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include daughters Barbara Carter of Sulphur Springs and Linda Anderson of Como; sisters Mary Lee Masters, Loretta Taylor, Barry Ary and Elmay Park, all of Odessa; six grandchildren, Bobby Faulks, Kelly Faulks, and wife, Tammy, Jessy Anderson, Mitchelle Jolly, Amanda Sandberg and Lawanda Faulks; great-grandchildren Adesha Littrell and husband Josh, Amanda Bisenius, Abreeanna Bisenius, Christopher Jolly, Colton Jolly, Cadence Jolly, Clorissa Jolly, Chelsey Jolly, Sonya Jolly, Casey Carson, Jessica Jolly, Tommy Jolly Jr., Stephanie Faulks, Brittany Faulks, Colton Faulks, Lindsey Faulks, Sonya Jolly and Chelsey Orsburn; and two great-great grandchildren.
His parents, and two brothers, Leroy and Butch Smith, preceded him in death.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tapp Funeral Home.
