ATHENS — A memorial service for Edith Books, 95, of Athens is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at First Baptist Church in Garden City with the Rev. Kolby Abney officiating.
A family burial will precede the service at Garden City cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens.
Mrs. Books died Sept. 21, 2012, in her Athens residence.
She was born Dec. 6, 1916, in Garden City to the late Henry S. and Eva L. Calverley Currie. Edith was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Chancel Choir. She formerly was active with Meals-On-Wheels.
Mrs. Books was preceded in death by her husbands, James Marshall Cook and Morris Books.
Survivors include two daughters Darla K. Bennett of Tyler, Brenda Nix Davis and husband, Richard, of Athens; five grandchildren, including Dawn Bennett McCampbell and husband, Brad, of Yantis, Holly Bennett Massey and husband, Brad, of Sulphur Springs, and Karrie Bennett of Shreveport, La.; seven great-grandchildren, including Cara Thompson and husband, Geoff, of Sulphur Springs, Meredith Massey Daniels and husband, Jim, of Hamilton, Texas, and Hannah McCampbell of San Marcos, Texas; and two great-great grandchildren, Claire Grace and Maggie Louise Thompson of Sulphur Springs. Her third great-great grandchild, baby Thompson, is due in February 2013. Also surviving is devoted caregiver, Betty Luna, and her loving canine companion, Angel.
