JILES PERRY (J.P.) SHULL, JR., 77, of Paris, passed from this life Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Paris Regional Medical Center. Following cremation arrangements by Starrett Funeral Home, the family will hold a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 25, 2012, at First United Methodist Church of Athens, with Rev. Jimmy Bassham and Gordon McDaniel officiating. Private family burial will take place in the Smith Cemetery in Henderson County.

A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service.
    J.P. was born November 29, 1934, in Dawson, Texas, a son of Jiles Perry Shull, Sr. and Una May Scroggins Shull. He attended school in Athens, Texas, the place he considered his hometown. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1958. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, serving two years in Germany. J.P. worked for Texas Power & Light Company (TXU), retiring as a District Manager after 35 years of service. He was an active member of every community in which he lived. A member of the Rotary Club, he served as president in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He also served on the Chamber of Commerce in several cities, including Paris, Texas where he was President in 1984-1985. J.P. worked as a manager, but he was an agronomist, farmer and loved to be outdoors. He will truly be missed by all his family and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; by three sisters; one brother; and his eldest son, J.P. Shull. III.
    On June 1, 1957, J.P. married the love of his life, Sue Ellen Ballow, in Athens. Together they shared fifty-five years of family and happy memories.
    In addition to Sue, he also leaves behind his children, son Mark Shull, of Paris; daughter Jayna Shull, of Paris; and son Travis Shull and wife Cristi Paige Shull, of Lucas, Texas. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Amy Shull, Coby Countryman, Luke Shull and Landry Shull. J.P. also leaves all his beloved “Girls”: Kelly and Lauren Anne Newsome and Lindsey Hunnicutt, all of Mt. Vernon, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
    Named as honorary pallbearers are members of the Athens High School Class of 1953.
