Graveside services for John DeVries, 70, of Sulphur Bluff will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Sulphur Bluff Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Dodd officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at West Oaks Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Karl Ebel, Tony Moore, Barry Ward, Vic Ponder, Mike Ponder and Johnny Pierce.
Mr. DeVries died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 16, 1942, in Artesia, Calif., the son of Gerrit and Clazina (VanVliet) DeVries.
He married Alice Koning on Sept. 2, 1973, in Chino, Calif. She preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 2005.
Mr. DeVries was a dairy farmer and a cattle rancher. He was a member of Sulphur Bluff First United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by one son, Mitchell DeVries of Fort Smith, Ark.; two daughters, Amy DeVries and husband, Patrick Dennis, and Julia Molteni and husband, Aldo, of Sulphur Bluff; his grandchildren, Brooke and Eden Molteni; two brothers, Abraham DeVries and wife, Minie, of Ontario, Calif., and Cornelius DeVries and wife, Mary, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; and one sister, Joan Van Leeuwen and husband, Arlan, of Oakdale, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sulphur Bluff United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 33, Sulphur Bluff, Texas 75481.
