Funeral services for James William (Bill) Garner, 96, of Brashear  will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, in the Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Lynn Turner and Travis Aven officiating. Interment will follow at Brashear Cemetery with Mr. Garner’s grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

James William “Bill” Garner died Saturday evening, Jan. 10, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Hopkins County on June 28, 1912, the son of Arthur Napoleon and Daisy Dean Mallory Garner.

He married Edith Vickers in Brashear on Nov. 27, 1937. She preceded him in death in 1997.

Mr. Garner owned and operated Garner’s Store in Brashear. He was a member of the League Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, William Garner and Gerald Garner, both of Brashear; one daughter, Barbara Filter of Royse City; three sisters, Pansy Reeves of Euless, Opal Clapp and Pearlene Bass, both of Irving; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Harvey Lee Garner; two grandsons; four sisters; and three brothers.
