Funeral services for R.M. Charles, 84, of the Dial community near Honey Grove will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Dial Baptist Church with Rev. Terry PaulCunningham officiating and David Carlock presenting the eulogy.
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove with Robert Charles, Jimmy Charles, Kevin Charles, Nathan Charles, Aaron Charles and Jamie Word serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Little, Rob Herrington, Bob Milford, Doug Stroud, Johnnie Smith and Fred Fore.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the church.
Mr. Charles died at 12:55 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Honey Grove Nursing Home.
R.M. Charles was born April 4, 1924, in Paris, to Charlie Otto and Mary Esther Reily Charles. They preceded him in death.
He married Christine Lair on Jan. 23, 1944, in Honey Grove. She survives.
Mr. Charles was a farmer and rancher for many years. He was a member of Dial Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert Charles and Jimmy Charles of Honey Grove; one daughter, Elaine Tadlock of Honey Grove; three grandsons, Kevin Charles and Nathan Charles, both of Plano, and Aaron Charles of Honey Grove; one grandaughter, Leslie Bewley of Bonham; step-grandson, Michael Howell of Hallsville; one step-grandaughter, April Howell of Hallsville; 10 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Charlie Charles Jr. of Sulphur Springs, Billy Charles of Houston, Mackey Charles of Paris and John Charles of Frankston.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Harry “Sonny” Charles, and one grandson, Eric Tadlock.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove.
