Charles ‘Chuck’ Frances Pickard
Funeral services for Charles “Chuck” Frances Pickard, 78, of Sulphur Springs were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Pecan Gap Methodist Church with RubenTrussel officiating.
Interment was to follow in Pecan Gap Cemetery.
Mr. Pickard died Sunday, Dec. 21, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
Charles “Chuck” Frances Pickard was born in Pecan Gap on Aug. 7, 1930, the son of Laurence Elmer Pickard and Laura Ross Pickard.
Mr. Pickard married Samuella Reed on March 21, 1953. She preced him in death on Feb. 18, 2001.
Mr. Pickard was a sportwriter for the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram from 1984 to 1994. He was a sport writer for Baseball Digest and was recognized for his writing with several awards.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Charles Wayne and Elise Pickard of Fate; daughters, Cheryl Jayne Singleton of Golden, Shirley Jean Barber of Sulphur Springs, and Stacy Lorene and Teddy Steward of Ridgeway; one brother, Albert Marshall Pickard of Raymondville; two sisters, Laurine Garrison of Sulphur Springs, and Marie and husband Homer Kerr of Arlington; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Pickard was also preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Edward “Big Bud” Pickard Jr.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Delta Funeral Home in Cooper.
