City tables tax issues, names new development director

After a lengthy discussion, Sulphur Springs City Council tabled Mayor Craig Johnson’s proposed ordinance regarding the six-percent hotel occupancy tax collected by the city and shared with the county for Hopkins County Regional Civic Center operations.


Miller Grove students doing good things for ‘One Day 4-H’

Each year as part of National 4-H Week, 4-H members state-wide participate in “One Day 4-H,” a community service learning project of their own choosing, to benefit the communities in which they live. Miller Grove 4-H, Miller Grove Jr. High Student Council and Miller Grove Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Chapter joined efforts for the focus this year.

Mother’s Culture Club plans 5k Turkey Trot - Race to benefit Harper Elle Howard

Mothers in Sulphur Springs are no different from their counterparts around the world. When they see a need, they answer the call. This year, Mother’s Culture Club hopes to start an annual tradition by hosting a 5K run on Thanksgiving morning. The idea for the event came to MCC Vice President Holly Ragan and her friends as a way to raise money for children’s charities.


Hearts of Life animal rescue in need of food, funds

Hearts of Life Animal Rescue in Dike provides temporary shelter for 70 pooches. Soon, the group hopes to relocate several of its canines to a neighboring barn recently purchased to get the dogs inside out of the elements.
