Funeral services were pending Thursday morning for a New Boston man who died in a Tyler hospital early Wednesday from injuries he received when a car fell off a jack and pinned him underneath it in Hopkins County. Hopkins County Sheriff's Investigator Daniel Winn said Paul Woodruff, 44, stopped to help a stranded motorist on Interstate 30 last week. “Apparently, a couple had a flat tire on the side of the road, and we had a Good Samaritan stop and help then,” Winn said. “As he was trying to remove the spare tire from underneath the mini van, the jack fell and the vehicle crushed him.” Winn, who also responded to the accident, said two county employees from Precinct 3 were first to arrive and were able to lift the vehicle enough to get Woodruff out from under it and when Deputy Adrian Pruitt and Sgt. Paul Fenimore arrived, they performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Woodruff was first taken to Hopkins County Memorial Hospital and then flown to the Tyler hospital. Funeral services for Woodruff are pending with Bates-Rolf Funeral Home in New Boston.
