Council buys building, bans ‘Jake Brakes,’ supports apartment projects

Following a brief closed-door session, Sulphur Springs city council authorized the purchase of a building at 218 Tomlinson St. for $28,000.

Brenda Dickey of Sulphur Springs wins trio of Laurie R. King books

More than 800 entries were received in the News-Telegram’s giveaway of Laurie R. King’s trio of books, “The Beekeeper’s Apprentice,” the debut novel in King's fictional 11-book series about Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes, “A Monstrous Regiment of Women” and “A Letter of Mary.” This morning, Sports Editor Don Wallace drew Brenda Dickey’s name from the entries. After the contest link appeared on Mary Russell’s Twitter page, entries were received from across the country, including California, Colorado, Oregon, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, New York and Virginia.
