Sulphur Springs and Como-Pickton schools are joining forces this week to hold the 1st Annual Hopkins County Special Olympics Meet, which is expected to host approximately 50 competing students.

A 10-day investigation by Hopkins County-Sulphur Springs Special Crimes Unit into the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages at a Main Street residence concluded Tuesday with two people going to jail.

A Birthright man who reported being robbed by three men on bicycles in the parking lot of Wal-Mart Supercenter on Feb. 17 confessed to police Tuesday that not only was he not robbed, but he wasn’t even at Wal-Mart the day in question, police said Wednesday morning.

Police in Commerce have identified the lone gunman in Sunday’s shooting incident on a Wal-Mart parking lot as 29-year-old Artenio Rodriguez, who lived near Commerce.

Grant funds of up to $35 million were the topic of an informational meeting Tuesday morning at Sulphur Springs Library.
